Social Events

The social committee organises a wide and varied social calendar throughout the year. All members are welcome and tickets for the events are available from behind the Bar. Tickets for all events tend to sell out very quickly.

Our season starts off with the Captain’s Drive In on the first weekend in May.

The new Captain is escorted down to the 1st Tee at 12 noon by a posse of Past Captains. He then has to drive off watched by at least 200 well dressed spectators, and a double barrelled shotgun going off behind his back. All members are welcome with free drinks for all on the patio afterwards and music in the evening.

During the summer there are several social events with live music and tribute nights so remember to look at the notice boards.

November with the winter drawing in sees the annual Captain’s Ball usually held in a hotel venue close to the club - dinner jacket, for the gents and a new frock for the ladies, a four-course dinner and dancing till the early hours.

December sees the Christmas party with Santa arriving and presenting the ladies with gifts. The traditional carol service takes place on the Sunday before Christmas with an off key Captain leading the singing and lots of children and grandchildren helping him out - this is not to be missed.

January sees the extremely popular junior dice horse racing night that is followed closely that month by a traditional Burns night.

February is a time to look at the family tree with the Celts versus the English match with a wonderful dinner afterwards.

March has the Irish celebrating St Patrick’s night, April the Captain’s end of year party and then the English celebrating St George’s night.

Fitting all these events into a busy golfing calendar is quite difficult but we manage somehow.
